Seward Itinerary - One Day

Wildlife Cruise Fox Island, Seward, Alaska

Many travelers have tight schedules when visiting Seward, and often plan just one day for visiting. While we HIGHLY encourage at minimum two to three days for your visit, we get it. There is so much to see and you only have so much time. Here are a few ideas to help you get the most out of your short visit.

The Alaska Railroad offers daily service from Anchorage and also offers several package options which include discounts for tours in Seward which line up with train arrival and departure times.

Driving to Seward is a beautiful alternative. The Seward Highway is one of the most scenic drives in the United States, and includes unlimited photo opportunities. Keep in mind traffic can be heavy during the high-season. While the drive typically takes 2.5 hours, be sure to leave at least 30 minutes of extra time for stops and slow downs.

A very popular option is to choose a wildlife/glacier cruise into Kenai Fjords National. Another popular option would be to spend a few hours kayaking in Resurrection Bay, followed by a tour of the Alaska Sealife Center. Both options fit within the Alaska Railroad’s schedule or when driving.

For those driving, take time after your activities to dine in one of Seward’s delicious restaurants and plan for one of two (or both!) stops on the way back to Anchorage. The Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center stays open into the evening during the summer and affords the opportunity to see rescued moose, bears and musk ox up-close and personal. Another amazing option is the Alyeska Tram, which takes you to an elevation of 2,300 feet with incredible views of Turnagain arm.
