Seward Wildlife Cruises

Seward is home to some of the most abundant marine wildlife in the world, especially during the peak season of mid-May through mid-August. Humpback, Fin, and Gray Whales all come to Alaska to feed before making the long migration back to the warmer waters of areas like Hawaii and Baja to give birth.

Wildlife Cruises

A great way to get on the water, while avoiding the open ocean (and possible sea-sickness!) is the shorter cruises which remain in Resurrection Bay. Our favorite combines a stop at beautiful Fox Island for an Alaska salmon & prime rib buffet lunch.

Glacier Cruises

Seward, also known as the Gateway to Alaska, is also the gateway to Kenai Fjords National Park, home to the Harding Icefield. This icefield spawns approximately 40 glaciers, some of which spill into the turquoise waters of Kenai Fjords. The most popular way to view these tidewater glaciers is by tour boat, on 6 to 8.5 hour excursions. Watch for whales, sea lions, seals and puffins as your boat plies the waters of Kenai Fjords.

Small Boat Options

For those who prefer a smaller crowd, there are a few outfitters with smaller boats that can provide more intimate tours. The tours can often be personalized for those looking to see specific sights or wildlife, especially birders. They often also offer drop-off/pick-up services for parties planning on camping in a remote location.

A very popular cruise option combines kayaking near a tidewater glacier with wildlife cruising in Kenai Fjords National Park. Kayaking the turquoise waters of the park near (but safely far enough away) from a rumbling, calving tidewater glacier is a truly exceptional experience!
